News & Announcements
Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule
The library will close at 1 pm on Wednesday, November 21, and remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, as well as Friday, November 23. The library will re-open on Saturday, November 24, at 10 am.
Evan Marshall Art Exhibit
"Weird Essex County," a colorful exhibit featuring artwork by award-winning artist Evan Marshall of Roseland, will be on display in our community room through Wednesday, November 21. The exhibit will be open for viewing during our regular hours (Monday-Thursday, 9 am-9 pm; Fridays 9 am-5 pm; Saturdays 10 am-3 pm).
Holiday Train Schedule Now Available!
Plan your visit to our Annual Holiday Train Exhibit! The exhibit officially opens to the general public between Saturday, December 15, and Saturday, December 29, during select days/hours. Please check the December Children's tab for the exact schedule before you plan your visit!
Eagle Rock Reservation Hike
The Roseland Free Public Library Hiking Group will be meeting at Eagle Rock Reservation on Saturday, November 17, at 8 am for a guided adventure! With just a minor incline and single-track trail, this hike is rated easy to moderate and is recommended for everyone. Please email Scott at with any questions. RSVP on website homepage.
DIY Essential Oil Holiday Gifts
Geeta Lahiri, a wellness educator with Young Living, will share some ways to create simple and inexpensive essential oil products to give friends and family for the holidays on Tuesday, November 20, at 1 pm. RSVP on our website homepage.
Tap Into Your Inner Inventor!
Award-winning research scientist, inventor, and author Charles Kannankeril will discuss his experiences and new book, The Inventor in You , during a special presentation for adults and teens on Tuesday, November 20, at 7 pm. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing after the program. RSVP on this website under Event Registration.
Guided Meditation Classes
The next Adult Guided Meditation classes are scheduled for the following Thursdays: November 29 & December 6 at 10 am & 7 pm. RSVP under Event Registration.
Holiday Train Preview Night
Friday, December 14, starting at 6:30 pm: Kids can get a sneak preview of our own Mr. Conductor’s Holiday Train Exhibit, watch “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” movie, and enjoy a visit from Mrs. Claus, who will do a special reading of The Sleigh Bell Letters by Leslie Lajewski. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served. Donation is $5 per child, and proceeds benefit the Friends.
Knitting & Crochet Club
Enjoy an evening of knitting and crocheting at the library on Monday, November 19, starting at 7 pm. New members welcome.
Walking for Fitness
This group fitness activity meets Mondays at 10 am. Jump-start your morning with a 45-minute low-impact workout that emphasizes walking (streamed on video). Also includes discussion and healthy recipe exchanges. Ideal for beginning fitness levels. Bring towel and water bottle. RSVP on website homepage.
Chair Yoga Mondays
Join us for some chair yoga workouts (streamed on video) every Monday starting at 11 am. Bring towel and water bottle. Class size is now limited to 12. RSVP on website homepage.
Matinee Mondays
Matinee Monday continues on November 19 at 1 pm with "Waitress," the 2007 cooking-themed comedy/drama starring Kerri Russell as a young woman trapped in a small town with an unhappy marriage, a dead-end job, and an unwanted pregnancy. Rated PG-13, 108 minutes. No RSVP needed, popcorn will be served.
Fall T'ai Chi Chih
Fall T'ai Chi Chih with accredited instructor Lee Bergman runs Tuesdays through November 27, at 9:30 am for beginners and 10:30 am for returning students. $70 for all 10 weeks. This is not a library program, but a portion of the proceeds are donated to the library. RSVP/more info:
Weekly Adult Mat Yoga
Enjoy an invigorating Adult Mat Yoga Class with Taryn and Kristin of Iris Mind + Body every Wednesday at 11:30 am. RSVP is appreciated. Please note: Last class until the train exhibit in the library will be on December 5 and will resume after exhibit is over...please stay tuned for the post-holiday start date!

Patrons can borrow passes for themselves and/or their families for Montclair Art Museum, Morris Museum, The Jewish Museum, the Children's Museum of Manhattan, Grounds for Sculpture, and Imagine That! Wednesday Nite Bookworms
Wednesday Nite Bookworms, a fresh edition of our Library Book Club, is led by Wendy Macey, library staffer and avid reader! The group will meet on Wednesday, November 28, at 7 pm to discuss Oil and Marble by Stephanie Storey, which depicts the intense rivalry between the artistic legends Michelangelo and da Vinci.

HOOPLA is back for our patrons! Go to and enter your library card information to download free music, movies, television programs, audiobooks, and ebooks with no late fees. Leveled Reading List Books Available
Noecker Kids & Parents: We now have a list of books available at the library for the leveled reading system used at Noecker Elementary School. All you have to do is inquire at the Circulation Desk, and you can see a list of books at your child's current level that we have available.
Zac's Hacks - Computer Help
Library assistant Zac Cascio can show you the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel, and other tech resources Mondays or Fridays 9 am-noon. Safely navigate social media; create resume templates, letters, and spreadsheets; utilize cell phone, iPad, and Kindle features, such as calendars and more. Please note: RSVP needed for this drop-in instruction, go to "Even Registration" on the right-hand side of this homepage.
Mobile Hotspots Available
Mobile Hotspots are now available for our patrons to borrow! Available to patrons 18 or older with a valid driver's license and Roseland Free Public Library card in good standing. Each hotspot provides internet access for up to 10 devices. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, and the loan period is 14 days. There will be a $5 per day late fee.
