Weekly story times will take place on Tuesday mornings, followed by weekly pre-K crafts on Wednesday mornings, both at 10:30 am in our Community Room. Reservations will be required for Wednesday crafts but not for Tuesday story times.
STORY TIME - Tuesdays at 10:30 am
Children and their caregivers can enjoy stories on Tuesday mornings in our spacious community room. Themes vary every week. Registration is not required for our regular story time. Upcoming themes:

SIGN LANGUAGE FOR TODDLERS & PRE-K - Tuesdays, January 14 & 21, at 10:30 am
Join us for two great American Sign Language (ASL) programs specially designed for toddlers and pre-K students! Led by certified teacher Desiree Agrifolio, who also studied Applied Behavior Analysis and American Sign Language. She has taught students with special needs as a paraprofessional in Nutley and as a teacher in Fairfield.
JANUARY 14 at 10:30 am - SIGN & SING: Join us for a fun and interactive music class that uses sign language! Learn basic ASL while we sing along to favorite songs and nursery rhymes. Dance along, play with shaker eggs, and take part in other fun activities. RSVP HERE
JANUARY 21 at 10:30 am - STORIES & SIGNS: Little learners can enjoy an engaging program with Ms. Desiree as we read stories, learn basic ASL, and sing songs to promote language learning. RSVP HERE
CRAFTY WEDNESDAYS: TODDLER/PRE-K CRAFTS - Wednesdays at 10:30 am
Enjoy a different age-appropriate craft every Wednesday in our spacious community room following the theme of the previous day's story time! PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED to ensure that there are enough craft materials for each child:

CRAFTER-SCHOOL CLUB: MOVING WINDMILL - Thursday, January 16, at 4 pm
For this session of our Crafter-School Club, we will explore the area of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) with a moving windmill project! Limited to 15 participants - ideal for ages 7 and up, 5- and 6-year-olds may require some assistance.
Please register for this event only if your child falls into this age category. If you register for this event and are unable to attend, kindly take a moment to unregister so that another child can attend.

CHESS CLUB FOR ALL AGES - Thursdays, January 16 & 23, at 6 pm
All levels welcome! Whether you are a beginner, seasoned player, or just want to learn how to play chess, head over to the library for an hour of chess on select Thursdays in our Quiet Room. For children, teens, and adults.

CHINESE NEW YEAR DUMPLING CLASS - Tuesday, January 28, at 4 pm
We are celebrating Chinese New Year at the Roseland Library! Our Building Bridges of Connection cultural series in partnership with the Folk Life Center of Northern New Jersey continues with a dumpling making class, just in time for the Lunar New Year. Learn how to make yummy dumplings and eat them too! Ideal of school-children (grades K & up). Limited to 20 participants - RSVP HERE
CRAFTER-SCHOOL CLUB: CHINESE NEW YEAR "DANCING" SNAKE - Thursday, January 30, at 4 pm
Our celebration of the Year of the Snake continues with a colorful, glittery, and embellished "dancing" snake or, according to Chinese culture, a "baby dragon" - join friends in making this fun and festive craft. BLACK HISTORY HALL OF FAME - Saturday, February 1, at 1 pm
In this 45-minute theatrical performance by the Bright Star Theatre Company, Dr. Daisy and Professor Paisley will lead the audience on a tour of the Black History Hall of Fame. Learn about notable figures in Black History including Maya Angelou, Aretha Franklin, Mae Jemison, the Buffalo Soldiers, and more! Ideal for school-age children and their families. RSVP recommended but not required.
WINTER NATURE DISCOVERY WALK & CRAFT - Tuesday, February 4, at 4 pm
The Essex County Environmental Center will come to the library and lead a winter nature discovery walk on the library grounds for children ages 4-9. Through indoor and outdoor activities, participants will use their senses and other scientific tools such as binoculars and magnifiers to investigate animal and/or plant adaptations and behaviors. Limited to 15 participants - each child must be registered individually - RSVP HERE

AFTER-SCHOOL KIDS' YOGA - Tuesday, February 11, at 4 pm
The Mindful Nest Yoga Studio comes to the Roseland Free Public Library for another children's yoga class specially designed for ages 3 and up. Classes incorporate creativity with age-appropriate relaxation techniques. Participants may bring their own yoga mats; the library has some yoga mats available to borrow. RSVP HERE
STEM EXPLORATIONS: LEGO MINDSTORMS - NEW DATES TBA
New to Lego Mindstorms? Children can learn the basics of how to program/code Lego Mindstorms vehicles/robots and engage in different challenges! For students entering grades 4-6. Limited to 10 children; pre-registration is required.
